Vikram and Jagapathi Babu starrer Shivathandavam has released today in Andhra Pradesh. The movie has released sometime back in Tamil Nadu and it has not received any encouraging response. This movie’s director is A.L .Vijay Kumar and UTV Motion Pictures banner has produced it. Let us see how Shivathandavam is.
Story :
Shiva Kumar (Vikram) is a senior officer in RAW, the Indian Intelligence agency. He is among the top 5 operatives of the agency along with Sharath ( Jagapathi Babu). Shiva gets engaged to Meenakshi (Anushka) and takes time off from work. During this period, Sharath is given the task of investigating a critical case. Once Shiva returns, he tries to assist Sharath in the investigation but he is met with resistance. In the line of duty, Sharath gets injured and Shiva takes over the case.
As part of the investigation, Shiva heads to London where he uncovers some startling truths that shock him. He fights for his life. Whether Shiva is successful in his case and how he manages to solve the problems forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :
Vikram’s characters over the last few years have one common trait. They either have some form of mental or physical impairment. It is the same in this movie also as Vikram has played two characters. Raw agent Shiva Kumar and blind man Kenny. He has played both roles well.
Jagapathi Babu brings much needed relief from the very slow movie. Anuskha is decent as Meenakshi.
The last 30- 40 minutes of the movie is decent.
The song Oka Vaipu has been shot well and Anushka looks good in the song
Minus Points :
Vikram is an accomplished actor, no doubt about it. It is by now evident that he can play challenging roles. He must now look for stories and characters which strike a chord with the common man instead of finding characters that challenge his acting abilities
Amy Jackson is wasted in a useless role. Same is the scene with Lakshmi Rai. She does not have any meaningful role in the movie.
Santhanam’s comedy track is poor and does not fit the movie at all. There is nothing in these episodes that is worth laughing about.
The pace of the movie is painfully slow, especially in the first half. The script is bad and the scenes are downright irritating. Nasser gets on your nerves with his frequent Angry Birds playing character.
Screenplay is terrible and is a major minus point.
Technical Aspects :
GV Prakash’s music fails to make an impression. Nirav Sha’s cinematography is good. He shot London locales well. Editing is below par
Dialogues are unimpressive and do not evoke any response from viewers.
Verdict :
Shivathandavam is one more setback for Vikram. The movie has released here a week after getting a poor start in Tamil Nadu, so word has spread and openings are poor in Andhra Pradesh for the movie. Except for Vikram’s performance in the last 30 minutes or so, there is nothing in this movie. You can avoid this painfully slow movie.
